Notes (please read this)

The pattern is written to create a side-fringe for your blanket. If you want to add a crochet edging to this instead, change your yarn colors at the end of each row on the last yarn over of the stitch. I have filmed a video tutorial to show you how to carry your unused yarn colors up the side of your project from the end of Row 2 onward here. It works best with 3 colors because you will always have the yarn color you need at the row end.
To create the side-fringe, finish off your current yarn color at the end of the row leaving a 6 to 7-inch tail of yarn (see Row 1 in the video).
Turn your work and join a new yarn color with a standing single crochet (sc), leaving a 6 to 7-inch tail of yarn (see Row 2 in the video).
You can replace the standing single crochet with a slip stitch to join and chain 1 if you prefer.
Once the blanket is complete, tie the yarn ends for each row edge together in a double-knot (to form the fringe edge).
Trim all the ends to an equal length (approximately 5.25 inches) to make them nice and neat.
This stitch pattern works on a multiple of 2 for the foundation chain.

Finishing:

Make sure all the finishing ends (i.e the yarn you finish off at the end of a row) are tied in a double knot with the beginning ends (i.e. the yarn you change to for the next row). Then trim all the fringe ends to the same length on each side of the blanket. I trimmed mine to be 5.25-inches on each side.

Finally, look at your blanket and locate the two corners where you are missing a fringe. cut a length approximately 14-inches long in a corresponding color and tie it securely (double knot) to the corners. Trim to the same length as the others.
